BARCELONA, Spain — The International Ski Federation has chosen Are in Sweden to host the Alpine skiing world championships in 2019.

Are, which last hosted in 2007, was awarded the two-yearly event ahead of Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.

The FIS ruling council also chose Seefeld in Austria from a four-candidate race to host the 2109 Nordic ski championships.

The other contenders were: Obertsdorf in Germany, Almaty in Kazakhstan — which has applied to host the 2022 Winter Olympics — and Planica, Slovenia.

Are also hosted the Alpine worlds in 1954.
