KILLINGTON, Vt. — Montreal’s Chloe Dufour-Lapointe and Mikael Kingsbury of Deux Montagnes, Que., captured silver and bronze medals, respectively in a Noram freestyle ski moguls event Saturday.
American Emiko Torito was first with 23.85 points while Dufour-Lapointe, 17, was second with 22.55. Japan’s Tae Satoya, the ’98 Olympic champion, was third.
"I was proud of myself," said Dufour-Lapointe. "I did my job, especially in the middle section, which was harder."
Her score came with the help of strong jumps. A back flip and a helicopter, on her second jump, produced the best air scores in the women’s final.
Jackie Brown of Cambridge, Ont., was fifth while Chelsea Henitiuk of Whistler, B.C., was sixth.
Americans David Babic and Jeremy Cota captured the first two spots in the men’s final with 25.88 points and 24.54 points, respectively. Kingsbury, 16, was third with 24.50 points for his first-ever Noram medal.
"I’m super happy," said Kingsbury. "I qualified sixth and in the final I just felt no stress, and it went well."
Maxime Gingras, of St. Hippolyte, Que., finished fourth, with Montreal’s Arnaud Laurin-Laundry taking fifth. Pascal-Olivier Gagne, also of Montreal, was ninth while Marc-Antoine Gagnon of Terrebonne, Que., was 11th and Matthew Crosby of Summerland, B.C., finished 12th.
