WINDSOR, Ont. — Mike McEwen scored once in the seventh end and stole another in the eighth to secure a 4-2 victory Sunday over fellow Winnipeg skip Jeff Stoughton for his first career World Cup of Curling title.
The rinks were tied 2-2 when McEwen broke through at the WFCU Centre.
The $100,000 World Cup of Curling is the first stop on the men’s Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series.
It featured a field of 18 of the best rinks from around the world and is the first major international event of the curling season.
Stoughton called on Reid Carruthers as an emergency replacement third Sunday after Jon Mead, who played through Saturday night’s semifinal win over Glenn Howard, had to fly out in the morning for a business trip to Hong Kong.
