The Vanier Cup championship game is set to return Hamilton for the first time since 2008.
Canadian Interuniversity Sport announced on Monday that the Steel City will host the 2016 and 2017 games, both to be played at Tim Hortons Field.
“The City of Hamilton is delighted to welcome back the Vanier Cup for two more years,” Hamilton mayor Fred Eisenberger said in a statement. “Varsity sports are an integral component of the culture of post-secondary institutions, and Hamilton hosting showcases the City on a national scale.”
Ivor Wynne Stadium was the scene of three previous Vanier Cup games held in Hamilton, the stadium having been closed three years ago to make way for Tim Hortons Field.
McMaster University will also play a role in the festivities, focusing primarily on engagement with local communities.
The 2016 Vanier Cup will take place on November 26 and can be seen on Sportsnet and TVA Sports.
