Montreal’s Ivan Menjivar is set to fight Mike Easton at UFC 148, the UFC confirmed Saturday.
This announcement comes a day after Menjivar’s original opponent, Renan Barao, was promoted to an interim title bout with Urijah Faber on the same card.
The Salvadoran-Canadian has won three fights in a row and is coming off a submission of the night performance against John Albert in February.
Although he’s just 29 years old, Menjivar (24-8) is one of Canada’s MMA pioneers, having competed in the sport since 2001. The bantamweight was UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre’s first professional opponent.
Easton (12-1) is a rising star in the 135-pound division and is riding a seven-fight win streak. In his last bout, Easton defeated Jared Papazian in a thrilling majority decision in January.
UFC 148 takes place on July 7 in Las Vegas and is headlined by a middleweight title bout between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen.
