LumberJax rally past Roughnecks

PORTLAND, Ore. — Brodie Merrill and Dan Dawson each had two goals and three assists and the Portland LumberJax beat the Calgary Roughnecks 13-9 in National Lacrosse League action on Friday.

The Roughnecks had a one-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, but Portland exploded for six straight goals in the final frame until Calgary’s Jeff Shattler capped the scoring with a consolation goal.

Derek Malawsky added a goal and four assists for the LumberJax, who improved to 3-5.

Lewis Ratcliff lead Calgary (2-5) with three goals and an assist.

Pat Campbell made 35 saves on 47 shots for the Roughnecks, while Ryan Avery stopped all six shots he faced in 4:41 of playing time staggered over the second and fourth quarters.

Matt King stopped 24 shots for Portland.

In Friday’s other game, Philadelphia remained perfect with a 17-8 rout of Minnesota.
