Jones wins 6th Manitoba Scotties title

Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones beat Barb Spencer 9-3 to win her sixth career provincial title at the Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts final on Sunday in Stonewall, Man.

The four-time Canadian champion scored a deuce in the third to go ahead 3-1. Leading 4-3 after seven, Jones pulled away with a three-ender in the eighth and stole two in the ninth for the victory.

Jones also earned the Manitoba championship in 2002, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2012. She will be making her 10th career appearance in the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts, having represented Team Canada in the 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2011 tournaments.

Spencer defeated Pinawa, Man., skip Colleen Kilgallen 6-3 in the semifinal after rallying to score three in the eighth and stealing one in the ninth to set up the all-Winnipeg final.

Jones advanced to the final with an 11-2 rout over Kilgallen in the Page 1-2 matchup.

Spencer eliminated Chelsea Carey in the 3-4 game after scoring three in the ninth end to win 8-5.
