Canadian John Alessio has been released by the Ultimate Fighting Championship after two consecutive unanimous decision losses.
At UFC 145 in April Alessio took a fight with fellow Canadian Mark Bocek on short notice and lost a decision. At UFC 148 on July 7 the 33-year-old lost another decision to Shane after being controlled on the ground.
“I’m super upset,” Alessio told MMAjunkie on Tuesday. “I worked so long and so hard to get back, and the UFC always puts all this pressure on you about being exciting, so I tried to change my style up to be crowd-pleasing.
“But then I get an opponent in my last fight, where … he just chose to hold me down to win the fight, and it’s just depressing that that gets rewarded when all they talk about is exciting fights.”
Alessio (34-16) is considered to be one of the most talented Canadian mixed martial artists but he is 0-5 in the UFC since 2000.
The Duncan, B.C., native said he still hopes his UFC days aren’t over with and would be willing to step in on short notice.
“I’m always that guy that they can depend on,” he said. “Put me in there with a striker, though.”
