Koscheck’s new camp key for UFC preparation

Perennial UFC welterweight contender Josh Koscheck says his new fight team at the Dethrone Base Camp in Fresno, Calif., has helped him prepare for his co-main event bout against Johny Hendricks.

This will be Koscheck’s first fight since leaving the American Kickboxing Academy, but the 34-year-old said although his preparation didn’t change, it might have improved.

“I know the routine, I know the structure of training and to be honest my last couple training camps (at AKA) I’ve pretty much trained myself. I set my own schedule and did everything myself,” Koscheck told Brady & Lang on Sportsnet 590 The Fan on Thursday.

“Now I have coaches that are doing that for me and I just show up and everything’s ready to rock … I feel I’ve gotten better over the last 11 weeks leading up to this fight.”

Koscheck has won five of his last six fights, with his only loss coming to champion Georges St-Pierre. If he can get by Hendricks it would be his third consecutive win and the seven-year UFC veteran believes he is close to earning another title shot.

“I’m just trying to go out there and fight a smart fight,” Koscheck said. “Just go in there and let my hands go, use my footwork and give this guy a good whipping.

“I think if I put three or four good wins in a row I’m the next guy in line.”

UFC on FOX 3 is headlined by a lightweight bout between Nate Diaz and Jim Miller and can be seen live on Sportsnet East, Ontario and West starting at 8 p.m. ET Saturday.

The preliminary card can be seen on Sportsnet ONE starting at 5 p.m. ET.
