CRAWLEY, England — Bianca Ockedahl of Montreal won gold in the women’s 48-kilogram event Sunday, capping a four-medal day for Canada at the British Open judo tournament.
Ockedahl won three bouts, finishing with a victory over Oiana Blanco Etxeberria of Spain in the final.
In the women’s 57-kg event, Joliane Melancon of Blainville, Que., earned the silver medal with four wins and a loss. Yahaira Aguierre of Spain defeated Melancon in the final.
Robert Edward of Calgary won a silver medal in men’s 90-kg event. Edward opened with four wins before losing to Victor Semenov of Russia in the final.
Andrew Goulet of Mont-St-Hilaire, Que., completed the Canadian medal count finishing third in the men’s 100-kg event.
Laurie Wiltshire (52 kg), Renee Guggino (52 kg), Maude-Helene Benoit (63 kg) and Antoine Valois-Fortier (81 kg) all placed seventh in their respective categories.
