TORONTO — A pulled groin has forced heavyweight Lavar Johnson to pull out of his Dec. 8 UFC fight with Brendan Schaub.
The two were slated to meet on a UFC on FOX 5 card in Seattle.
The UFC said there won’t be a replacement bout, meaning the card, which will air in Canada on Sportsnet, will go ahead with 12 fights.
John Cholish, Bryan Caraway, T.J. Dillashaw, Eddie Yagin and Rafaello Oliveira have already withdrawn from the card due to injury.
NOTES: Two more bouts have been added to January’s Strikeforce card. Estevan Payan will meet Michael Bravo and Jorge Gurgel will take on Adriano Martins in a pair of lightweight bouts on the Jan. 12 card in Oklahoma City.
The organization has also changed the event’s name from “Strikeforce: Champions” to “Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine” after two title fights were scrapped due to injuries to the champions, leaving the welterweight title bout between Nate Marquardt and Tarec Saffiedine as the headliner.
