Stefanie Lawton defeated Chelsea Carey by a score of 5-4 in the final of the Colonial Square Ladies Classic, stealing two critical ends en-route to the victory. Lawton’s win at the Nutana Curling Club in Saskatoon marked her second Grand Slam title of the year.
It was a close match that had the teams battling back and forth on the scoreboard. With the score tied in the eighth end, Lawton was able to secure her victory with a steal of one point, when Chelsea Carey just missed a thin pick for the win.
Carey made a clutch runback double in the seventh end, forcing Lawton to take a single point and give Carey the hammer in the final end, scoring two points in the third and sixth ends, but was unable to overcome two stolen ends by Lawton.
Lawton beat Shannon Keibrink in the quarterfinals and Anna Sidorova of Russina in the Semifinals on her way to the final.
Runner-up Chelsea Carey recorded another championship final appearance to go with her win in Red Deer last week. Carey defeated Michele Jaeggi in the quarterfinals and Rachel Homan in the semifinals.
