OTTAWA — Veteran Louis-Pierre Mainville has retired from the Canadian national volleyball team after eight seasons.
The native of Notre-Dame de l’Ile-Perrot, Que., says he will return to university as a full-time student to finish a Bachelor’s degree.
"Since the first time I watched a Canadian national team match on television, in 1998, I knew that one day I wanted to be a part of this team," Mainville said in a statement. "In 2006, I made the team and one of my dreams had been realized.
"Several injuries, an operation and two changes in position on the court tested my determination over the last eight years. My passion for volleyball and my love for sport allowed me to overcome all these obstacles. Today I am very proud to have had the ability to represent Canada throughout the years on the international volleyball scene."
The 28-year-old said while his playing days are done, he still would like to be involved in the sport at some level.
