Stoughton scored a deuce in the fourth and stole one in the fifth to build a 4-1 lead in the all-Winnipeg semifinal match.
McEwen missed an opportunity to pick up two and tie it up in the fifth but his takeout just missed the target and flashed, giving Stoughton the single steal.
McEwen blanked the sixth end, scored one in the seventh and stole a single in the eighth to close the gap to 4-3.
Stoughton settled for one in the ninth and McEwen needed a deuce in the 10th end to tie it but ran out of rocks and the two rinks shook hands.
McEwen also came close to picking up a pair in the second but couldn’t knock Stoughton’s stone far enough and gave up a steal of one.
The two teams met in last month’s National Grand Slam of Curling final with Stoughton downing McEwen 8-2.
Stoughton, a nine-time provincial champion, also topped McEwen in the 2010 and 2011 Manitoba finals.
