Hominick faces Garza in must-win at UFC 154

Canadian Mark Hominick will look to snap a three-fight losing skid as he takes on Pablo Garza in a featherweight bout at UFC 154 in Montreal.

After a five-fight win streak Hominick, 30, earned a title shot last year, but the Thamesford, Ont., native came up short against Jose Aldo at UFC 129. That performance was followed up by a six-second knockout loss to Chan Sung Jung at UFC 140 and a split decision loss to Eddie Yagin at UFC 145 in April.

The current losing streak has put one of the most popular and accomplished Canadian mixed martial artists’ UFC career in jeopardy if he is to lose a fourth straight.

Hominick (20-11) has fought 12 times in Montreal and is 10-2 when competing in the city with both losses coming to Hatsu Hioki.

After starting off his UFC career with a flying knee knockout and flying triangle submission, Garza (11-3) has lost two in a row. He is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Dennis Bermudez in May and is also in a spot where his UFC career could be on the line.

UFC 154 takes place at the Bell Centre on Nov. 17 and is tentatively scheduled to be headlined by a welterweight title unification bout between Georges St-Pierre and Carlos Condit.
