Mayweather-Pacquiao: Average ticket price $11K

General public tickets went on sale for the much-anticipated Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao super fight on Thursday afternoon and, as expected, they sold out in a hurry.

Of the capacity 16,800 seats in the MGM Grand Garden Arena that will play host to the fight, only a reported 500-1,000 were allocated for the average Joe hoping to be a part of the spectacle.

As a result of how scarce tickets are, the secondary ticket market has soared to absurd heights.

According to Forbes, the average ticket price for the fight is approximately $11,000 – a figure close to what the secondary market for Super Bowl tickets were this year.

And if that doesn’t seem outlandish enough, organizers of the bout have created a possible way to make it incredibly difficult for scalpers to profit off the fight as tickets can only be picked up at will call with the initial credit card used to purchase them along with government-issued I.D.

In other words, for those buying these secondary market tickets online, they’re going to have to get the seller to go to the will call for them and get them their tickets, a process that could prove a little shady.

So, if you do have $11,000 just burning a hole in your pocket and you need to spend it all on a ticket to one of the biggest boxing tilts ever, just be a little careful who you’re buying from.
