MELBOURNE, Australia — Former Tour de France stage winner and yellow jersey holder Brad McGee will share the national coaching role previously held by Matt White in Australian cycling.
Cycling Australia said Monday that McGee will run the national elite men’s road team at the world titles, the Olympics and Commonwealth Games.
Brian Stephens, based in Austria, will take on the role of co-ordinator for the large number of Europea-based male Australian riders.
White had to quit the Cycling Australia position last October when he confessed to doping during his racing career in the fallout from the Lance Armstrong scandal. He also lost his fulltime job as team director on the Australian pro team Orica-GreenEDGE.
White has since served a six-month suspension and will find out this week whether Orica-GreenEDGE will reinstate him.
