EDMONTON — The Edmonton Rush acquired veteran goaltender Steve Dietrich in a trade with the Calgary Roughnecks on Wednesday.

Dietrich, the 2006 National Lacrosse League MVP, was picked up in exchange for goaltender Matt King and defenceman Kris Hartzell. The teams also swapped first-round picks in the 2008 NLL entry draft. Edmonton now has the eighth overall selection while Calgary will pick seventh.

Dietrich, 38, posted a 10.47 goals-against average and .765 save percentage in nine games with Calgary last season.

Before joining Calgary, Dietrich spent six seasons with the Buffalo Bandits. He has also played for Rochester, Detroit and Baltimore. Over 163 career regular-season games, Dietrich has a 12.01 GAA and a .768 save percentage.

King, 27, appeared in six games for Edmonton last season, posting a GAA of 11.45 and a .733 save percentage. He broke into the league with the Roughnecks in 2002 and won a championship as the team’s backup in 2004.

Hartzell, 25, was the Rush’s fifth-round pick in the 2006 draft. The 25-year-old defender played in one game last season and collected three loose balls.
