EVERETT, Wash. — The Washington Stealth scored eight straight times in the second half to beat the Toronto Rock 15-11 on Saturday night to win the National Lacrosse League Champion’s Cup.
Lewis Ratcliff scored five times for Washington, while Rhys Duch added three goals and eight assists.
Raul Rabil, with two, Peter Morgan, Mike Grimes, Eric Martin, Cam Sedgwick and Jeff Zywicki also scored for the Stealth, who won their first league title.
Rock forward Kasey Beirnes scored four goals and captain Colin Doyle added two goals and two assists as Toronto erased an early three-goal deficit with six straight goals and led 7-5 at halftime.
Garrett Billings added two goals and two assists for the Rock, who were looking for their sixth NLL crown. Rob Marshall, Blaine Manning and Stephan Leblanc also scored for Toronto
The Rock let a four-goal lead slip away in the second half, with the turning point coming when Washington scored two goals in the final 12.8 seconds of the third quarter.
The Stealth then added two more to tie the game 10-10 with 11:21 left in the fourth.
Ratcliff, a Victoria native, scored to make 11-10 Washington with 6:33 remaining.
The Stealth took a 3-0 lead with 8:37 to go in the first quarter, but Rock goaltender Bob Watson, a five-time NLL champ with Toronto, stopped 18 shots in the half as the Rock defenders kept the Stealth attack at bay. Toronto outshot Washington 32-23 in the first half.
Watson finished with 32 saves, while Tyler Richards turned aside 50 shots for the win.
