NEW YORK — The Edmonton Rush bolstered their defence corps Friday, acquiring two-time all-star defenceman Scott Self in the National Lacrosse League’s Chicago Shamrox dispersal draft Friday.

The NLL’s 12 teams selected players from the Shamrox franchise, which has suspended operations for the ’09 campaign.

Self had four goals and 11 assists last season.

The Rush also acquired forward Callum Crawford (14 goals, 12 assists) and defenceman Darryl Gibson, who appeared in just four games with Chicago.

The Toronto Rock acquired forwards Bill McGlone and Josh Wasson.

Toronto had the No. 3 pick and used it on McGlonem who had 21 points (10 goals, 11 assists) with Chicago last year and was a two time All-American while at the University of Maryland. Wasson, a native of Peterborough, Ont., was taken in the second round (15th overall) and registered 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists) with the Shamrox.

Both McGlone and Wasson are entering their third NLL campaigns.

The Calgary Roughnecks acquired a 2010 first-round draft pick from the Buffalo Bandits for transition player Tom Montourm who they acquired with the No. 5 overall selection, their only pick of the draft.

The Boston Blazers had the first overall selection and took all-star goaltender Anthony Cosmo. A three-time all-star, Cosmos is regarded as one of the game’s top goalies.

The NLL also announced Friday its 2009 regular season will open Jan. 3 with three games, including Toronto facing New York in the inaugural Florida Lacrosse Cup game in Sunrise, Fla.
