OSAKA, Japan — Nobuhiro Ishida retained his WBA interim super-welterweight title Tuesday by defeating challenger Oney Valdez of Colombia by unanimous decision.
The 34-year-old Ishida sent Valdez to the canvas with a right to the head in the 10th round at Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium.
The judges scored the bout 117-110, 119-108 and 118-109 in favour of Ishida.
Ishida improved to 22-5 with seven knockouts and two draws.
At 34 years four months, Ishida became the second-oldest Japanese boxer to defend a world title behind former WBC flyweight champion Daisuke Naito.
