TORONTO — Middleweight Kalib Starnes will defend his Armageddon Fighting Championship title against John Salter at "AFC 6: Conviction" on June 18 in Victoria.
Starnes (10-6-1) is coming off a loss to Patrick (The Predator) Cote at Ringside 10 in Montreal last month. He has won his last three AFC bouts.
Salter (6-2) defeated Casey Huffman by TKO at a Strikeforce Challengers event in January.
Both fighters spent time in the UFC earlier in their career.
The Bear Mountain Arena card will also feature Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Robert Drysdale (2-0) against former UFC light-heavyweight Mike Nickels (9-4).
There is also a matchup of former CFL defensive linemen as Victoria heavyweight Justin Shaw (2-0) takes on MMA debutante Paul Cheng of Vancouver.
Shaw was drafted 18th overall by B.C. in 2008 while Cheng was taken sixth overall in 2002, also by the Lions.
STRIKEFORCE CHALLENGERS — Canadian middleweight Julia (The Jewel) Budd (1-1) will face (The Iron Lady) Germaine de Randamie (2-1) of the Netherlands at a Strikeforce Challengers event on June 24 in Kent, Wash.
The 145-pounder from Port Moody, B.C., is looking to bounce back from a 14-second knockout loss at the hands of Amanda Nunes in January.
The ShoWare Center card also features lightweight Caros (The Future) Fodor (8-2) against James Terry (10-2) and lightweight Ryan Couture (2-0) against Matt Ricehouse (4-0).
Former UFC fighter Danillo Villefort (13-3) meets middleweight Antwain Britt (11-5).
NOTES — Former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver will take on Brian (Mr. D) Davidson in the main event of Titan Fighting Championship 18 on May 27 in Kansas City. Pulver (24-14-1) is dropping down to 140 pounds to meet Davidson (6-3), a replacement for Mike Powell. The card also features former UFC middleweight Drew (The Massacre) McFedries (9-6) against Darryl Cobb (6-2) and former UFC welterweight Rory Markham (16-6) against Rudy (Bad News) Bears (12-7) … According to Sherdog.com, the Vancouver Athletic Commission will allow judges the use of cage-side video monitors at next month’s UFC 131 at Rogers Arena. The UFC also made such a request for the upcoming UFC 130 on May 28 in Las Vegas, but the Nevada State Athletic Commission has yet to approve it.
