Burke was hired in November of 2009 after leading the Ducks to the Stanley Cup. Burke has an outstanding reputation around hockey and is most notably known for draft-day trades where he acquired the Sedin brothers in Vancouver and Chris Pronger in Hartford. So far. Burke has made noise with the acquisitions of Dion Phaneuf and Phil Kessel in Toronto.
Under Burke, the Leafs missed the playoffs for the third consecutive season but did so with an impressive 24-13-7 run in the second-half of the year. Much credit was given to rookie goaltender James Reimer for his outstanding performance since being called up from the AHL.
Paul Beeston, who served as the President & CEO of the Jays during their back-to-back World Series wins, was brought back in 2009 to restore the Jays’ winning mentality.
Beeston also served as the former president of Major League Baseball and was the president of the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League.
Beeston’s biggest move in his recent tenure was the hiring of Alex Anthopoulos as the team’s general manager. In Anthopoulos’ first year, the Jays showed impressive signs of growth, which resulted in a 85-77 record as well as a franchise-record 257 home runs.
Bryan Colangelo, who has held his position with the Raptors since 2006, is currently in the rebuilding phase after losing star forward Chris Bosh. The Raptors are re-building their roster, and they have an impressive group of young players to work with. Colangelo is very pleased with the development of their their last two first-round draft picks, DeMar DeRozan and Ed Davis.
This season, the Raptors finished with a 22-60 record and are in contention for the 2011 first overall draft pick.
