QUEBEC — It will be enforcer against enforcer when former NHL tough guy Donald Brashear makes his mixed martial arts debut next month.

Ringside MMA confirmed at a news conference Thursday that Brashear’s opponent on the June 4 fight card at the Pepsi Colisee will be Martin Trempe of Peribonka, Que.

Both the 27-year-old Trempe (0-2) and 39-year-old Brashear have most recently skated in the Ligue Nord-Americain de Hockey, a Quebec senior circuit that highlights on-ice brawling.

Ringside head Eric Champoux said they won’t wear skates in the cage but joked that “maybe they’ll drop the gloves.”

The six-foot 201-pound Trempe played 66 games over three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in the early 2000s. He had one goal and 308 penalty minutes.

Brashear, a native of Val Belair, Que., who is six foot three and 237 pounds, played 1,025 NHL games with five teams and amassed 85 goals, 120 assists and 2,634 penalty minutes, which is 15th all-time.

The main event features middleweights Patrick (The Predator) Cote and Todd (Bulldog) Brown, who have both fought in UFC.

Also, Dimitri Waardenburg of Granby, Que., will face Stephane Pelletier of Val d’Or, Que., for the Ringside 135-pound title.

There are 10 fights on the card.
