Sanchez breaks hand, out of UFC 135 bout

Diego Sanchez has been forced to pull out of his UFC 135 co-main event bout against Matt Hughes because of a broken hand.

UFC president Dana White broke the news via Twitter.

White tweeted Monday: “Diego Sanchez broke his hand. Looking for a replacement for Hughes”

Former No. 1 welterweight contender Josh Koscheck indicated in a tweet later Monday that he was offered the fight and will be replacing Sanchez should Hughes accept the change.

White then confirmed the new matchup on Tuesday.

UFC 135 takes place Sept. 24 at the Pepsi Center in Denver and is headlined by the light-heavyweight title bout between champion Jon Jones and Quinton (Rampage) Jackson.

Sanchez was coming off a win over Martin Kampmann in March. Hughes hasn’t fought since being knocked out in 21 seconds last November by B.J. Penn.

Koscheck has been out of action since dropping a unanimous decision to 170-pound champ Georges St-Pierre in December.
