The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television began its four-day rollout of the 2020 Canadian Screen Awards on Monday — and Sportsnet came away with three prizes in the process.

Sportsnet was named as the recipient for “Best Sports Feature Segment,” “Best Sports Opening” and “Best Direction: Live Sports Event.”

Best Sports Feature Segment

This award was given in recognition of the video feature “Nino De Oro” about Toronto Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo, his inspiring family story and the hero’s welcome he received back in his home of Puerto Rico.

Best Sports Opening

This award recognized the opening that celebrated legendary Hockey Night In Canada broadcaster Bob Cole calling his final game.

Cole’s voice became synonymous with hockey in Canada for 50 years. Whenever it came time to capture the sport’s biggest moments, nobody did it better than Bob Cole.

Best Direction: Live Sports Event

With this award, Sportsnet was honoured for the way it captured “The Shot” in Game 7 of the 2019 Eastern Conference semifinals, in which Kawhi Leonard’s multi-bounce buzzer-beater helped propel the Toronto Raptors to an NBA championship.

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television continues its virtual awards presentation through Thursday, with categories that include children’s and youth programming, cinematic arts and scripted programs and performance.
