Sportsnet 590 The FAN’s McCown given award

TORONTO — Toronto radio host Bob McCown will be honoured next month with Sports Media Canada’s career achievement award.

McCown is the longtime host of Sportsnet 590 The FAN’s radio show "Prime Time Sports," a nationally syndicated talk show that is also simulcast on television.

He was also the original host of Global TV’s "Sportsline," and had another television show called "The Business of Sports."

The award will be presented at Sports Media Canada’s annual luncheon on Oct. 21 in Toronto.

Other recipients of the 2013 George Gross Awards include Toronto Maple Leafs broadcaster Joe Bowen for outstanding broadcasting, Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun for outstanding sportswriting and the late Mike Cassese for outstanding photography.

Halifax Mooseheads general manager Cam Russell will be honoured as sports executive of the year.

Broadcasters Alec Bollini and Tom McKee and hockey executive Frank Selke Jr., will be honoured posthumously.

Former golf executive Dick Grimm will receive the President’s Award.

Sports Media Canada is the Canadian chapter of A.I.P.S., the intnerational association of sports journalists.
