SAN JOSE, Calif. — After watching a large first-half lead dwindle away, the San Jose Stealth built an even larger one in the second half — and this one stuck.

Cam Sedgwick scored three times in the third quarter, and finished with four goals and two assists as the Stealth manhandled the Edmonton Rush 16-6 in National Lacrosse League action Saturday afternoon.

Sedgwick, a Vancouver native, scored in the first quarter as the Stealth (2-3) opened up a 5-0 lead. After the Rush (2-4) closed the first half with three straight goals, San Jose regained its sizeable advantage in the third, outscoring Edmonton 5-2 on the strength of Sedgwick’s three-goal outburst.

The Stealth put an exclamation point on the rout in the fourth, blitzing the Rush for six goals.

Curtis Hodgson of Burnaby, B.C., and Tom Johnson of Delta, B.C., each added two goals and two assists in the victory, while Colin Doyle of Kitchener, Ont., chipped in with a goal and three assists.

Paul Rabil had two goals for San Jose, with singles going to Jeff Zywicki, Rhys Duch, Kyle Sorensen, Alex Turner and Eric Martin.

Hamilton native Andy Secore had a pair of goals to pace the Rush, who have surrendered 29 goals over their past two games. Jamie Floris, Dan Teat, Ian Hawksbee and Mike Hominuck added singles.
