Bonnar tests positive for steroids after UFC 153

Recently retired mixed martial artist Stephan Bonnar tested positive for steroids following his first-round TKO loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 153.

Bonnar tested positive for the anabolic steroid Drostanolone and it is not the first time Bonnar has failed a drug test while with the UFC.

Back in 2006, Bonnar tested positive for the anabolic steroid Boldenone after his UFC 62 rematch with Forrest Griffin.

Drostanolone’s main medical uses are for lowering cholesterol and as an antineoplastic agent in for certain cancer treatments. In sports, though, it has been commonly used in bodybuilding.

The 35-year-old officially announced his retirement from MMA earlier this week.

Also, heavyweight Dave Herman, who lost to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 153, failed a drug test as well after he tested positive for marijuana.

Last year, Herman was scheduled to fight Mike Russow at UFC 136, but the bout was cancelled when Herman failed his pre-fight drug screening after testing positive for marijuana. Herman denied using the substance.

All 24 fighters that competed at UFC 153 were tested, but Bonnar and Herman were the only athletes not to pass.
