Vancouver’s Overwatch League team has officially been introduced.

Introduced during the second intermission of the Vancouver Canucks game against the Dallas Stars Saturday afternoon, the Vancouver Titans were unveiled as the British Columbia metropolitan’s newest sports team.

“We are thrilled to officially launch the Titans today and to bring a premier global esports team to Vancouver,” said Francesco Aquilini, managing director of the Aquilini Group, in a statement. “In choosing our identity we wanted to introduce a team that would resonate with fans in the Pacific Northwest. With a local feel and an experienced, skilled team, we are ready and can’t wait to have the Titans compete at the highest level in esports.”

Fans of the Canucks should immediately recognize the team’s blue and green colours and the mascot on the logo is something that the team says will resonate with people of the Pacific Northwest.

“The colour shades signify a vibrant, contemporary take on the Vancouver Canucks palette, but still allow the Titans to develop their own West Coast style,” a press release reads. “The Titans logo features a sasquatch, a folklore figure synonymous with the Pacific Northwest, with the monogram of a V in the nose for Vancouver, and a mountain range on the top of its head.”

In addition to announcing the team’s name and logo, the Titans coaching staff and player roster were also unveiled.

The team’s coaching staff features Hwang “paJion” Ji-Sub, who previously coached Overwatch Contenders team Fusion University, Harsha “Harsha” Bandi, the former analyst of the OWL’s San Francisco Shock and Kwon “Yang1” Yang-won, who most recently coached Korean Overwatch Contenders team RunAway to a Contenders Season 2 Korea championship.

Of all Contenders rosters, the members of RunAway, a team that defeated the Overwatch World Cup champion South Korean squad in a exhibition back in August, were amongst the most sought after in professional Overwatch and the Titans will boast a roster with all eight former members of of that squad.

This means the Titans will have a roster with the following at each position:

• Kim “Haksal” Hyo-jong – DPS
• Lee “Stitch” Choong-hui – DPS
• Lee “Hooreg” Dong-eun – DPS
• Choi “JJANU” Hyeon-woon – Flex
• Seo “SeoMinSoo” Min-soo – Flex
• Lee “Twilight” Ju-seok – Support
• Kim “SLIME” Sung-jun – Support
• Park “Bumper” Sang-beom – Tank/Support

The Titans will have a ninth member of the team as well: flex support player Kim “Rapel” Jung-geun, who played for Element Mystic in Korean Contenders last season, and is best known for his Zenyatta play.

The Titans are among eight new expansion teams joining the OWL for the 2019 season, bringing the total to 20. A Toronto team, the Defiant, was also added, giving Canada two clubs in the league.

Play is set to begin on Feb. 14, 2019.
