Popular UFC light-heavyweight Stephan Bonnar will have more than Anderson Silva on his mind at UFC 153 on Oct. 13, as his wife is late in her pregnancy with their son.
And Bonnar is considering naming his child after his biggest rival, Forrest Griffin.
The 35-year-old is most well known for his epic fight with Griffin at The Ultimate Fighter season 1 finale in 2005 — a fight UFC president Dana White has repeatedly called the most important fight in mixed martial arts history.
The two TUF 1 stars will be forever linked by that bout and Griffin Bonnar has a nice ring to it according to the Bonnars.
“It started as a joke, but it kind of grew on us, to name him Griffin,” the fighter’s wife Andrea Bonnar recently told Yahoo! Sports. “Then he’d be Griffin Bonnar. It would be such a cute name and it would kind of create a tie to his dad.”
The couple says they have a few options to name their son, including Brandon, which was Andrea’s late brother’s name.
“We’ve got a couple of good ones in the bank, and we’ll look at him when he comes out and decide.”
