GSP excited at official UFC 154 weigh-ins

MONTREAL — UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre stepped on the official scales for the first time in nearly 19 months and successfully made weight ahead of his welterweight title unification bout against Carlos Condit.

It has been a long time coming for GSP, who has been recovering from ACL surgery, and the home crowd gave him a warm reception.

“I miss this so much,” St-Pierre said. “I’m just so excited for tomorrow.”

St-Pierre came in at an even 170 pounds, while Condit weighed 169 pounds.

While GSP was clearly the crowd favourite, the popular Condit received a nice reception.

“This fight is the culmination of a long time training,” Condit said. “I’ve been thinking about fighting Georges my entire career.”

In front of a packed house at New City Gas, a popular nightclub in downtown Montreal, all 26 fighters on the 13-fight card made weight on their first attempt.

All nine Canadians made weight, as fans cheered. London, Ont’s Sam Stout was accompanied by Montreal Canadiens forward Brandon Prust, while middleweight Tom Lawlor was up to his old weigh-ins antics.
