Edgar vs. Henderson rematch set for summer

Frankie Edgar got exactly what he wished for.

The former UFC lightweight champion will get an immediate chance to win back his title from newly crowned champ Benson Henderson in the summer, UFC president Dana White announced.

“Frankie Edgar and Ben Henderson rematch will be this summer,” White tweeted Tuesday.

Edgar lost a unanimous decision to Henderson at UFC 144 on Feb. 26 in Saitama, Japan.

Although two judges scored the bout 49-46 and the other scored it 48-47 for Henderson, many believed Edgar should have been awarded the decision.

White said after the fight that he scored the bout for Edgar.

The former champion was predictably happy about White’s decision to set up a rematch, tweeting, “Rematch anyone??…….it’s on!!”

Many thought Anthony Pettis, who has a win over Henderson, would be awarded the next title shot following a devastating headkick knockout of Joe Lauzon.

White was in New York City Tuesday to promote UFC on FOX 3 which is headlined by Nate Diaz vs. Jim Miller. The winner of that bout is also said to be in the title picture.
