Top lightweight contenders Clay Guida and Gray Maynard are set to fight in headlining bout at UFC on FX 4 scheduled for June 22, the UFC announced Sunday.
Both Maynard and Guida are coming off losses in their last bouts. Guida (29-12) lost a unanimous decision to Benson Henderson at the first UFC on FOX event in November. Maynard (10-1-1-1 NC) was knocked out for the first time in his career at UFC 136 in a title bout against former champion Frankie Edgar in October.
The UFC also announced a middleweight matchup between former 185-pound UFC champ Rich Franklin and former Strikeforce champ Cung Le will take place at UFC 148 on July 7.
Le (7-2) is coming off a knockout loss in his UFC debut to Wanderlei Silva at UFC 139. All of Le’s seven career wins have come by way of knockout or TKO.
Franklin (28-6-1 NC) last fought in February of 2011 where he lost a decision to Forrest Griffin in a light-heavyweight bout at UFC 126. Franklin last fought at middleweight at UFC 83 in Montreal on April 19, 2008 when he TKO’d Travis Lutter. Following the win Franklin moved up to the 205-pound division. He also fought two 195-pound, catchweight bouts against Wanderlei Silva and Vitor Belfort.
UFC 148 is scheduled to be headlined by a bantamweight title fight between The Ultimate Fighter Live coaches Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber.
