UFC roundup: Mir will not fight Dos Santos

Despite recent speculation, Frank Mir will not replace Alistair Overeem and step in to fight Junior dos Santos at UFC 146.

Overeem failed a pre-fight drug test when he tested positive for high levels of testosterone and it has potentially put his title shot against Dos Santos in jeopardy. The UFC has yet to officially make an announcement regarding whether or not Overeem will be replaced.

Mir, a former UFC heavyweight champion, is currently scheduled to fight fellow former champ Cain Velasquez in the co-main event at UFC 146 with the winner earning a title shot.

On Saturday UFC president Dana White put any rumours of Mir being moved to the main event to rest, tweeting: “Mir vs. Cain will happen.”

Another rumoured replacement opponent has been Fabricio Werdum, who is scheduled to fight Mike Russow at UFC 147 in Brazil. Even Dan Henderson, who competes at light-heavyweight and middleweight has expressed interest in stepping in to fight Dos Santos.

Until the UFC makes an official announcement all that is known is Dos Santos will defend his belt in the main event at UFC 146 and Mir vs. Velasquez will remain the co-main event.
