UFC roundup: Carwin, Maynard injured

The UFC injury bug bit again, as The Ultimate Fighter 16 coach Shane Carwin was forced to pull out of his Dec. 15 fight with Roy Nelson with a knee injury.

Carwin has not fought since a unanimous deicison loss to Junior dos Santos at UFC 131 in Vancouver. Carwin and Nelson were scheduled to headline the TUF 16 finale. No replacement has been named for Carwin.

In other UFC news:

— A knee injury has also forced Gray Maynard out of his UFC 155 lightweight fight with TUF 5 teammate Joe Lauzon. Stepping in for Maynard will be veteran Jim Miller, who is coming of a submission loss to Nate Diaz.

— A heavyweight fight between Alistair Overeem and Antonio Silva has been slated for UFC 156 in February.

— Popular featherweight Nam Phan has replaced and injured Eddie Yagin and will fight Dennis Siver at UFC on FOX 5 on Dec. 8.

— Just days after his unanimous decision loss to Riki Fukuda at UFC on FUEL TV 6, American Tom DeBlass announced his retirement from MMA.
