UFC Sweden debut to air live on Sportsnet

The UFC makes another debut in a new country Saturday and Sportsnet is the only place to watch it in Canada.

Catch UFC Live: Gustafsson vs. Silva from Stockholm, Sweden at 3 p.m. ET / noon PT on Sportsnet ONE on Saturday. Viewers can also watch the three-hour broadcast replayed at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on all Sportsnet regional channels.

The main card will feature six fights, including the light-heavyweight headliner between Sweden native Alexander Gustafsson and Thiago Silva, who replaced an injured Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

In the co-main event, Brian Stann meets Alessio Sakara in a middleweight tilt.

Four Swedes are featured on the undercard — Papy Abedi (born in Zaire) and newcomers Magnus Cedenblad, Reza Madadi (Iran) and Besam Yousef (Syria) — as the UFC makes its first foray into Scandinavia. Finland’s Simeon Thoresen is also making his Octagon debut, taking on Yousef.

Two Frenchman, Cyrille Diabate and Francis Carmont, will also take part in the prelims. Carmont, who lives in Montreal and trains with Georges St-Pierre at Tristar gym, faces Cedenblad.

One German (Dennis Siver) and three Englishmen (John Maguire, Brad Pickett and Jason Young) will also compete Saturday as the card has a heavily-European flavour to it.

There are no Canadians on card, the second to air on FUEL TV as part of the UFC’s deal with FOX, while six Americans, three Brazilians, one Cuban-born (Yoislandy Izquierdo) and one Afghan fighter (Siyar Bahadurzada) round out the slate of competitors.
