UFC 100 fetched the second highest gate in the organization’s history, according to numbers released by the Nevada State Athletic Commission Tuesday.
NSAC executive director Keith Kizer said the July 11 show at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas had a live gate of $5,128,490, with 9,793 in paid attendance (1,078 tickets were comped for a total audience of 10,871).
The previous high was $5,397,300 for UFC 66, when 12,191 filled the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Dec. 30, 2006 and saw Chuck (The Iceman) Liddell successfully defend his title for the fourth straight time with a TKO win over Tito Ortiz in the main event.
The UFC also held closed circuit viewings for this month’s milestone event at Mandalay and MGM Grand that drew a gate of $312,800 (6,256 tickets sold, 575 comped).
NOTES: A few fights have been added to the Sept. 16 UFC Fight Night in Oklahoma City. Former WEC light-heavyweight champions Steve Cantwell and Brian Stann will meet in a rubber match of their rivalry. In addition, middleweight Nate Quarry will face Tim Credeur, while Chris Wilson and Mike Pyle will meet in a welterweight bout. Though not confirmed, there are reports that former WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit will take on top contender Chris Lytle.

UFC veteran Kim (Kimo) Leopoldo is alive and well, despite earlier reports to the contrary. Rumours surfaced early Tuesday that he had died and the news was posted on MMA blogs as well as mainstream media sties including the Orange Country Register and the New York Daily News. But the 41-year-old German held a news conference later Tuesday in Orange County to dispel the reports. …

Alistair Overeem has pulled out of his upcoming Strikeforce heavyweight championship bout because of a lingering hand injury, according to MMAjunkie.com. The top heavyweight was supposed to defend his belt against Fabricio Werdum on Aug. 15 in San Jose. The event is headlined by the female super-fight between Gina Carano and Cristiane (Cyborg) Santos. Overeem hasn’t fought for Strikeforce since winning the title over Paul Buentello in November 2007. He is coming off a win over Gary Goodridge last November in the Netherlands.
