Taylor injured, forced to withdraw from UFC 138

A featured UFC 138 bout between lightweight strikers Paul Taylor and Anthony Njokuani has been cancelled.

Taylor (11-6-1) suffered whiplash in a recent car accident and is unable to fight at the Nov. 5 event. There was insufficient time to find Njokuani a replacement opponent, so the UFC pulled the fight from the card.

The English fighter is coming off a first round TKO victory over Gabe Ruediger at UFC 126 in February. Prior to that Taylor lost a decision to Canadian Sam (Hands of Stone) Stout. Njokuani (14-5) is coming off a decision win over Andre Winner at UFC 132 in July.

There is no word on how long this injury will keep Taylor out of action and it’s uncertain when Njokuani will return to the octagon.

UFC 138 is headlined by a middleweight bout between Chris Leben and Mark Munoz in the UFC’s first non-title fight scheduled for five rounds.

UFC 138 has taken some heat from fans who have said the lineup of stars is thin. A light-heavyweight bout between Cyrille Diabate and Anthony Perosh has been bumped onto the main card in place of the Taylor-Njokuani fight.

Fans can watch UFC 138 live on Rogers Sportsnet Ontario, East, West and Pacific beginning at 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT.
