PENTICTON — Curling is a game of inches and, for Bob Ursel, it was a single inch which allowed him to punch his ticket to next month’s Brier in Winnipeg.
The Kelowna Curling Club foursome survived an extra end measurement for an 8-7 victory over former Brier and world champion Greg McAulay’s Richmond rink in the final of the B.C. Men’s Curling Playdowns in Penticton.
Ursel’s rink jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after two ends and hung on for the win.
Ursel, with third Jim Cotter, second Kevin Folk and lead Rick Sawatsky will represent B.C. at the Brier next month in Winnipeg.
