Reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid is set to sit out with left hip soreness as his Philadelphia 76ers visit the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday.
The 76ers take on the Timberwolves on the second night of a back-to-back, and following a 122-119 overtime loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Embiid logged 41 minutes in that contest prior to fouling out and racked up 31 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists along the way. Those numbers fall right in line with his season averages of 31.9 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists through 14 games.
“He's got some soreness in his hip and that's it, enough to keep him out," Philadelphia coach Nick Nurse said before the game. “We'll keep checking it and check him again tomorrow, and see how long it's going to be.”
It'll be the first time this season that Philadelphia will take the court without their all-NBA big man. They are currently tied with the Milwaukee Bucks for second place in the Eastern Conference at 10-4, one game behind the Boston Celtics.
