After debuting with his hometown team on Thursday, Kyle Lowry is out for the Philadelphia 76ers' game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday due to "return to competition reconditioning."
Lowry finished Thursday's game against the New York Knicks with 11 points in 25 minutes, marking his first game since Jan. 21 when he was still a member of the Miami Heat.
The Heat traded Lowry to the Charlotte Hornets on Jan. 23, but he never played with them. After agreeing to a contract buyout, the 37-year-old subsequently signed a $2.8 million contract with the 76ers for the remainder of the season.
The unique injury he sustained on Thursday made Lowry's Philadelphia debut even more memorable.
Taking an inadvertent elbow to the face from Knicks forward Jericho Sims, Lowry had to receive six stitches on his forehead that ended up resembling the shape of the number seven. Lowry, whose jersey number with the 76ers is seven, shared a picture of the injury on social media saying "I guess the seven was a must."
The point guard eventually returned to play in the third quarter, sporting an adhesive bandage on his forehead.
Although he is out for the second half of Philadelphia's back-to-back, it is expected Lowry should be back in Sunday when the 76ers meet with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Over 37 games this season with the Heat, Lowry averaged 8.2 points, 4.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds.
