The Philadelphia 76ers will be without their most productive player for a couple of games.
Starting guard Tyrese Maxey will miss at least two games due to a right finger sprain, the team announced on Sunday. He will undergo testing and consultation on the next steps.
Maxey appeared to suffer the injury in the final seconds of Philadelphia's 125-116 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night. With less than a minute left in the game, Maxey got into a collision with teammate Adem Bona and Hawks forward Onyeka Okongwu while trying to corral a loose ball off an inbounds play.
The 25-year-old immediately exited the game afterward, covering his hand with his jersey along the way. He left after putting up 31 points, five assists and four steals in 38 minutes of action.
Maxey, now a two-time all-star, has spearheaded the eighth-seeded 76ers for much of the season with the inconsistent availability of his co-stars Joel Embiid and Paul George due to injury and suspension. He holds averages of 29.0 points (fourth in the NBA), 4.1 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 2.0 steals (second) through 61 games this season.
The 2020 21st overall pick leads the 76ers in scoring, assists and steals.
Philadelphia returns to action on Monday for a road matchup against the fourth-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers. The 76ers are currently half a game back of the sixth seed and an automatic playoff berth, and 1.5 games back of the Toronto Raptors in fifth.
