Chicago Bulls forward Lauri Markkanen is expected to miss two to four weeks after an MRI confirmed his original diagnosis of a sprained right acromioclavicular joint in his shoulder, the team announced Monday.
While only about a quarter of the season has passed, Markkanen was in the midst of a rebound year from his letdown 2019-20 campaign. He is averaging a career-high 19.1 points and 6.1 rebounds on 51.4 per cent shooting and 39.6 per cent from three-point territory.
Markkanen has a history of injuries in his young career, and hasn’t played more than 52 games over the past two seasons.
Chicago, sitting at 9-13 and 11th in the Eastern Conference, has been scrappy this season, and are only a half-game back from the eighth seed. The loss of Markkanen is a significant blow.
