Evan Mobley bests Scottie Barnes for Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month

Cleveland Cavaliers centre Evan Mobley has been named the NBA’s Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for October and November, edging out Toronto Raptors sensation Scottie Barnes.

Mobley, the 2021 No. 3 overall pick, leads all rookies with 1.9 block per game and is tied with Barnes for first with 8.2 rebounds. He’s also averaging 14.5 points on 49 per cent for the 12-10 Cavaliers. He missed four contests between Nov. 15 and Nov. 27 with a sprained right elbow.

Barnes, the No. 4 overall pick of the same draft, leads all rookies with 15.1 points per game while also averaging 8.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He’s shooting 48.2 per cent from the field this season for the 9-13 Raptors.

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey earned the Western Conference honour. He’s currently leading all rookies in assists with 5.8 per game while averaging 10.4 points and 7.2 rebounds for the 6-15 Thunder.
