Toronto Raptors all-star Fred VanVleet will miss Monday's game against the Brooklyn Nets with knee soreness. Sophomore guard Malachi Flynn will start at point guard in his place.
VanVleet has been dealing with a knee issue since before the All-Star break and it has continued to hamper his play in the two games since. The 28-year-old is in the midst of a career year, averaging 21.4 points and 6.9 assists in 52 games while averaging over 38 minutes per game.
The team is 3-4 this season without VanVleet in the lineup.
Flynn will be making just his second start of the season and is averaging less than 10 minutes per game in 36 games this year. In his limited time on the court, Flynn is averaging three points and 1.1 assists this season after averaging 7.5 points in 47 games as a rookie a year ago.
Gary Trent Jr., Scottie Barnes, Pascal Siakam and Khem Birch will join Flynn in the starting lineup Monday.
