The NBA G League announced Wednesday its new team of elite prospects — boasting Jalen Green, who is projected to be the top pick in the 2021 NBA Draft — will be called “Ignite.”
“We are thrilled to officially announce NBA G League Ignite as the name of our new team for elite prospects and we think it’s a fitting moniker for a group comprised of young players taking the first step of their promising professional careers,” said NBA G League president Shareef Abdur-Rahim in a statement.
“These players have a passion for the game and a desire to develop their skills for the next level and it brings us a lot of pride for them to blaze trails as inaugural members of NBA G League Ignite.”
The team also features other top high school prospects who are bypassing college — such as Jonathan Kuminga, Daishen Nix, Kai Sotto and Isaiah Todd — and will be managed by former Denver Nuggets head coach Brian Shaw.
The G League says the Ignite have recently begun training with Shaw in Walnut Creek, Calif.
The team will be dedicated to developing top young players through a one-year program.
