Atlanta Hawks guard Bogdan Bogdanovic has been diagnosed with an avulsion fracture in his right knee, an injury to the bone that occurs near where the bone attaches to a tendon or ligament, the team announced Sunday.
His treatment plan is being reviewed and will be updated later this week.
The injury occurred during the second quarter of Saturday night’s game against the Charlotte Hornets. LaMelo Ball, who was reaching for a steal, accidentally fouled Bogdanovic as the latter changed direction, causing him to fall off balance and land awkwardly on his right leg. Immediately, he crumpled to the floor, and after being aided in returning to the locker room, was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Though he’s gotten off to a slow start, Bogdanovic is a key piece of the young Hawks’ core. He was their top acquisition in free agency, after the Milwaukee Bucks failed to land him in a trade with the Sacramento Kings.
Bogdanovic has averaged 9.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists on 38.5 per cent shooting through nine games this season.
