Don't hold your breath on LeBron James' free-agency decision.
James' agent, Rich Paul, said Tuesday there is no timeline for the NBA superstar to choose a new team.
"We're not going to be rushed," Paul said on the latest podcast episode of Game Over with Max Kellerman. "It's his choice to make and when he makes the choice, he'll make it."
James has already announced this off-season that he won't be returning to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he spent the past eight seasons and won the 2020 championship.
He is reportedly considering the Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat for his next stop, with the three Eastern Conference teams believed to be favoured, per ESPN.
Paul said teams have made their pitches and there's nothing else they can do but wait.
"We don't need you to go above and beyond about anything. We understand it. It's clear. All the messages have been sent," Paul said he told teams.
Paul also pushed back on the notion that James is dragging out his decision for attention.
"I think it's important for people to understand: we're not making this about attention and a spectacle," Paul said. "It's not about a 'Decision' or anything like that. He has a choice to make. He has a business choice to make. We're not going to sit here and decide or allow someone else to decide when he makes that decision. ... It's a business choice that he's making. And I think as an athlete, why is it that an athlete has to rush his choice?"
NBA commissioner Adam Silver recently said he hopes James would make his choice "today" so that schedule-makers would have all the necessary information.
Alongside the results of the Kawhi Leonard-Aspiration investigation, James' signing is the biggest shoe still to drop before the season begins. What both have in common, it seems, is a lack of clarity on a conclusion.
"I don't know when his choice is going to be made, but it could be 48 seconds (from now). It could be 48 minutes. I don't know," Paul said. "Again, you can't make somebody know something that they don't know."
