The Memphis Grizzlies announced Friday that they’ve hired Sonia Raman to serve as an assistant coach.

Raman was previously the head coach of the women’s basketball team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for 12 seasons. She led the Engineers to a pair of NCAA Tournament berths and a 91-45 (.669) record over the course of her final five seasons.
“We are beyond excited to welcome Sonia to the Memphis Grizzlies,” head coach Taylor Jenkins said in a release from the team. “She has a high basketball IQ and a tremendous ability to teach the game, as well as a strong passion for the game. She is going to be a great addition to our current coaching staff.”
Raman was a four-year player at Tufts University, where she graduated in 1996. She went on to earn her law degree from Boston College in 2001 before embarking on a career in coaching.
